No Scar Hair Transplant (FUE)

Hair loss affects many people, and while some may choose to embrace baldness, others seek ways to restore their hair. One of the most popular hair restoration methods is hair transplant surgery, and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a minimally invasive technique that has gained popularity in recent years. However, the term “scarless” associated with FUE may be misleading, and in this article, we’ll explore what FUE really entails, its pros and cons, and whether it’s worth considering.

Follicular Unit Extraction is a hair transplant technique that involves removing individual hair follicles from the donor area, typically at the back of the head, and transplanting them to the recipient area, where hair loss has occurred. FUE differs from Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), which involves removing a strip of tissue from the donor area and dissecting it into individual follicular units. FUE leaves tiny, circular scars at the donor site, whereas FUT leaves a linear scar.

Is FUE Scarless?

While FUE does not leave a linear scar, it does leave tiny, circular scars at the donor site. The size and visibility of these scars depend on several factors, including the skill and experience of the surgeon, the size of the punch used to extract the follicles, and the healing capacity of the patient’s skin. In some cases, the scars may be barely noticeable, while in others, they may be more prominent. Therefore, the term “scarless” associated with FUE is not entirely accurate, and patients should be aware of the potential for scarring.

Pros of FUE Hair Transplant Surgery

R
Minimally invasive

FUE is less invasive than FUT and does not require stitches or sutures.

R
Natural-looking results

FUE allows for precise placement of individual follicles, resulting in a natural-looking hairline.

R
Fast recovery

Patients can typically resume normal activities within a week after FUE.

R
Less post-operative pain and discomfort

FUE involves less trauma to the scalp than FUT and typically results in less post-operative pain and discomfort.

Cons of FUE Hair Transplant Surgery

O
Limited donor supply

FUE requires a good donor supply of healthy hair follicles, which may limit the amount of hair that can be transplanted.

O
Longer surgery time

FUE requires a longer surgery time than FUT, as each follicle is extracted individually.

Is FUE Hair Transplant Surgery Worth Considering?

Whether FUE is worth considering depends on several factors, including the extent of hair loss, the patient’s goals and expectations, and their budget. FUE may be a good option for patients with limited hair loss who want a natural-looking hairline and are willing to pay more for a less invasive procedure. However, for patients with extensive hair loss, FUT may be a better option as it allows for more hair to be transplanted in a single session. Ultimately, the decision should be made in consultation with a qualified and experienced hair transplant surgeon who can provide personalized advice based on the patient’s individual needs and circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW MUCH DOES A HAIR TRANSPLANT COST?

The cost of an average hair transplant in Ukraine starts at around $2,500 and usually goes higher. Yet, this does not mean this will be the cost for you as well. Every hair transplant case is unique and requires a specific review to have a precise price. Depending on the extent of hair loss, type of hair, type of transplant, and where the donation hair comes from, the price can vary. If you’d like to find out how much your procedure might cost, contact us and ask us anything else you might also want to know!

DOES MY HAIR FALL OUT AFTER A HAIR TRANSPLANT?

The initial hair will fall out immediately after the transplant. This is no reason to panic, it is simply a normal reaction. Transplanted grafts stay. Over the next months, the hair will start to grow back, and you will start seeing the results. After this, the transplanted hair does not fall out.

With our long hair transplantation method, you can even preview the results right after the operation.

HOW LONG AFTER THE HAIR TRANSPLANT WILL I START SEEING THE RESULTS?

You can start to expect to see the results a few months after the operation. However, depending on the hair transplantation method used, it takes 6-9 months to show the majority of the results and up to 12 months to see the final results.

This is because it takes time for the newly grafted hair to adjust to the position, establish connections to the blood vessels, heal and start producing the keratine necessary for the hair to grow. While this may seem like a long time, the healthy process must unfold. Of course, there are instances where less or more time might be needed, but 6-9 months is the generally accepted and average time required for most cases.

DOES A HAIR TRANSPLANT HURT?

All hair transplant operations are done with local anesthetics that prevent the patient from feeling any pain during the process. Some may feel some pressure or discomfort, but in most cases, there is no pain present during the process itself. While it may take up to several hours, the regular sedation and presence of a professional team ensure the healthy passage of time with little to no discomfort for the person getting the hair transplant.

Even in the post-operative period, pain is minimal and can be treated with the use of the simplest painkillers, such as Ibuprofen. Most patients will experience pressure, mild swelling, and light discomfort for a week after the operation. However, this is expected and will pass shortly after.
